VIGAN NUMBER ONE

The festivals being celebrated in every town are part and parcel of Filipino culture. The  Vigan Town Fiesta, celebrated on the 25th of January, one of the popular ones in honor of St. Paul the Apostle, the City's patron saint.

In the northernmost part of the Philippines, the Vigan Town Fiesta is celebrated. Most bigueños return to Vigan from abroad, as it is  the tradition of Filipinos to return to their  hometown to join their family and friends in  their fiesta celebration. With the support of local  industries and communities, they are joined by  thousands of tourists from other parts  of the Philippines and other countries to  enjoy cultural shows, parades and street  dancing prepared by the local government units. The festival gathers a lot of tourist who come to see the shows.Vigan Town Fiesta includes  featuring displays of arts and crafts, carnivals,  street dance shows, pageants and other lively  performances showcasing the spirit of the city of Vigan.

Sadly, because of the current situation  caused by the pandemic, the festival this  year is no longer the same as it used to be. This years festival is very different from the past few years only few are done this year.
Even though the government prohibit it,  people are advised to wear face masks and face  shields if they go to public areas.
This are the following that are done by this years fiesta; Kannawidan Festival like sports fest, trade fairs and Saniata ti Ylocos Sur Pageant Competition which is held at Ichthus Beach Resort in barangay Alangan, Magsingal.Which is done where no audience is allowed, aside from the judges and the production team.

  1. It is sad that we can't celebrate fiesta as we used to before but safety is more important. Nice blog!

  3. Hi Althea! I agree that festivals plays a significant role in preserving our culture and traditions. Unfortunately, we were not able to celebrate the usual way because safety should be the priority. Your blog is well-written in a straight forward manner. Nice work and have a great day ahead!
