LENTEN SEASON
Lent, or kwaresma in Filipino, is a season during which Filipinos remember Christ's passion, pain, death, and resurrection. The Philippines is known for being Asia's only predominantly Christian nation, with a large population of devoted Catholics, which explains why Lent Season or Holy Week rituals are commonly observed in a unique manner. As a Non-Catholic, I observed that in the Philippines, it is known as Mahal na Araw or Semana Santa, and it begins on Palm Sunday, continues through Holy Monday, Holy Tuesday, Holy Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and ends on Black Saturday and Easter Sunday. Lent is a significant religious observance in the Christian world since it commemorates the passion, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, God's son, Savior and Redeemer.
