LENTEN SEASON

   Lent, or kwaresma in Filipino, is a season during which Filipinos remember Christ's passion, pain, death, and resurrection. The Philippines is known for being Asia's only predominantly Christian nation, with a large population of devoted Catholics, which explains why Lent Season or Holy Week rituals are commonly observed in a unique manner.    As a Non-Catholic, I observed that in the Philippines, it is known as Mahal na Araw or Semana Santa, and it begins on Palm Sunday, continues through Holy Monday, Holy Tuesday, Holy Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and ends on Black Saturday and Easter Sunday.       Lent is a significant religious observance in the Christian world since it commemorates the passion, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, God's son, Savior and Redeemer.      Women's empowerment is described as promoting women's self-esteem, ability to make their own decisions, and right to affect social change for themselves and others.It is closely linked to female empowerment, a basic human right that is also essential for a more stable and prosperous world.       First and foremost, Gender equality is a basic human right. A woman has the right to live in dignity, free from hunger and terror. Women's empowerment is also a critical weapon for promoting growth and alleviating poverty. Women who are empowered boost the health and productivity of their families and communities, as well as the opportunities for future generations. Gender equality is one of the eight Millennium Development Goals, which emphasizes its significance. Gender equity is recognized as a criterion for achieving the remaining seven targets.
