LENTEN SEASON

Lent, or kwaresma in Filipino, is a season during which Filipinos remember Christ's passion, pain, death, and resurrection. The Philippines is known for being Asia's only predominantly Christian nation, with a large population of devoted Catholics, which explains why Lent Season or Holy Week rituals are commonly observed in a unique manner.

As a Non-Catholic, I observed that in the Philippines, it is known as Mahal na Araw or Semana Santa, and it begins on Palm Sunday, continues through Holy Monday, Holy Tuesday, Holy Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and ends on Black Saturday and Easter Sunday.

Lent is a significant religious observance in the Christian world since it commemorates the passion, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, God's son, Savior and Redeemer. It's a good time to think about what it means. It's also an opportunity to repent for sins and misgivings, to strengthen our faith, and to welcome others into our faith community as brothers and sisters. Furthermore, lent is a time to deepen and enhance our faith, which unites us and allows us to do everything because of our love and devotion to Jesus Christ.
