Bataan Day


   The day of Valor, also known as Araw ng Kagitingan, commemorates the heroism of Filipino fighters during World War II. Every year around April 9th, the Philippines commemorates this day. In the Philippines, Araw ng Kagitingan is a non-working holiday and a long weekend. On this day, World War II veterans marched in various cities in the Philippines. There are small parades in the Philippines,but the main highlight of the Araw ng Kagitingan is when the country's president delivers a speech at the Mt Samat shrine in Bataan province to honor the heroism of Filipino and American troops during World War II.



  The Day of Valor, also known as Araw ng Kagitingan, honors the valor of Filipino and American soldiers during the Japanese invasion of the Philippines during World War II.
The Philippine government issued Letter of Instruction No. 1087 on November 26, 1980, establishing “Araw ng Kagitingan” a national public holiday to remember those who helped restore democracy and independence to the Philippines during World War II. On June 30, 1987 Executive Order No. 203 was signed, they declared April 9 to be “Araw Ng Kagitingan” in commemoration of the heroes of Bataan, Corregidor, and Bessang.
