THEMATIC PROJECT
Empower Juana, Empowered Juana
Firstly, gender equality is a human right. Women have the right to a dignified existence devoid of sorrow and terror. Women's empowerment is also an essential tool to support development and reduce poverty. Women who are empowered make a difference in health and poverty. Family and community productivity, as well as better prospects for the upcoming generation.
Our society consists of men and women. In earlier times men were considered to be prominent members of the family. They were responsible for earning a livelihood and were the decision maker of the family. On the other hand, women were responsible for doing housework and raising children. Therefore, the roles were mainly based on gender. There was no participation of women in decision making. If we assess our entire field, research says that women's issues are either focused on their reproductive role and their body, or on their economic role as a worker. But none of them is focusing on women empowerment.
There are gender differences in many aspects of a person's life whether it is culture, politics, business, family and relationships, or the economy.Gender inequality is a major problem not only in the Philippines but worldwide. This is a problem that is definitely getting better, laws are being made, but there is still much to be done. Men still look at women very differently for many different reasons. As Glorida Steinem, from Goodreads.com said “Women are always saying,”We can do anything that men can do.” But Men should be saying,”We can do anything that women can do.”This paper explains the reasons why women are treated unfairly at work. Some examples are being used to explain the way women are paid, and how they are treated.
Thus, women empowerment seeks to encourage confidence by providing women with everything that helps them to see the skills that are inherent in them and inert within them.Proper nurturing, polishing and sharpening those skills is only possible through better education, awareness and a place to express oneself freely. We need to empower and work together to make change work for women.
